Custom Installation of ATI ProCharger D-1SC on LS1 Corvette Engine

by Jim Martin

Introduction

There are a number of different types and brands of Superchargers on the market today for the Corvette. We're going to look at the installation and performance of the ATI ProCharger D-1SC.

ProCharger Centrifugal Supercharger systems are made by Accessible Technologies, Inc. (ATI). A kit can be purchased for Corvettes which includes everything needed to install the system.

Two models of Superchargers are available for Corvettes from ATI; the ProCharger P-1SC and the D-1SC. The P-1SC kit is usually installed on a stock engine whereas the D-1SC tends to be used for custom installations on modified engines. The P-1SC can boost horsepower at the flywheel on a stock engine to significantly depending on the PSI setting used. At 5 PSI installation would bring the horse power up from stock 350 to 490 HP. At 7 PSI the horse power increase is 540 HP according to ATI brochure.

D-1SC horse power and torque gains depend on what other modification are already on the engine and how high the PSI is set.

Our Corvette C5 Coupe is equipped with after market long tube step headers, "X" Pipe, Corsa Pro Exhaust, Ported Throttle Body, Throttle body coolant by pass, MSN Ignition, Beru Spark Plugs, and Vortex Induction System. Of Course the Vortex Induction system will be discarded when the ProCharger is installed.

The Breathless Performance Products (BPP) custom installation differs from the standard ProCharger install in that the radiator and Air Conditioner units are moved forward to allow for a direct air input to the supercharger. In addition the installation uses the stock cooling fans which are much larger then the ProCharger Kit fans. The moving forward of the radiator does change the position and therefore the height of the front spoiler, which left uncut would not allow adequate clearance with the ground.

In a series of videos we'll look at most aspects of the custom installation. We also have a brief look at a custom P-1SC installation on a ZO6.

This article includes pictures and a series of videos that document the installation process here at the AutoTuner's Center.

We would like to use the videos in a tutorial that incorporates the 1997-2004 C5 Corvette, H.O. ProCharger Intercooled System Owner's manual, and step by step instructions.

Video Part 1 - Checking Out the Parts

A look at all the parts that came with our D-1SC kit. It's a good idea to go over your inventory list and make sure everything is there. It's also a good idea to identify all the parts so that you know what things are and where they go. Since this is a custom installation there are a number of parts that we did not order or may not use. For example this installation utilizes the stock fans instead of the replacement fans that usually come with the kit.
